John A. Capobianco is a Professor of Chemistry and a Concordia University Research Chair in Nanoscience in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Concordia University. He is internationally recognized as an expert in the spectroscopy, synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles doped with lanthanide ions and is one of the leading groups studying upconversion in nanocrystalline inorganic materials. His research program is focused on the development of new biocompatible ultra-sensitive fluorescent upconverting nanoparticles probes for advanced biomedical applications including cell targeting, imaging and therapeutic functionalities.
